On Wednesday 5 June, we celebrated World Environment Day (open in a new window), marking the importance of protecting nature and wildlife and the sustainable management of resources and waste.
It is not only thanks to our research that we at the IEM CAS are aware of the need for long-term environmental sustainability of operations and mobility. In 2021, we decided to follow the ecological mission of the IEM CAS www.emise.info (open in a new window – available only in Czech), when we decided as the first institute on our campus to purchase a low-emission plug-in hybrid company car, to build the first charging station and later a photovoltaic power plant on the roof of our institute. In addition, we regularly participate in the Let’s clean up the campus (open in a new window) and Bike to work (DPNK) challenges (open in a new window). We are so happy that more and more of our employees are supporting these activities. For example, this year, 11 teams (45 employees) joined the DPNK challenge in May. In total, we ran, walked or cycled 6252.44 km, which is an average of 138 km/employee. We would like to thank all our participants for their support in protecting nature and the environment.
At the end of the challenge, we traditionally organise a joint breakfast, where we award the most active sportsmen/sportswomen of the IEM CAS, who receive gift vouchers from Decathlon – Czech Republic, and the best team, which wins a sweet prize in the form of a cake from the Ovocný Světozor (Hájek&Boušová).
Here are this year’s winners:
- Adolf Melichar / Department of Auditory Neuroscience (561.9 km)
- Jakub Netolický / Department of Neurochemistry (416.88 km)
- Zdeněk Novák / Department of Toxicology and Molecular Epidemiology (389 km)
Best team:
- Neurochemistry (1104.28 km)
Heartiest congratulations to the winners! We eagerly look forward to the next edition of the DPNK 2025 challenge, where we can once again come together to promote environmental sustainability and celebrate our collective efforts.
