Dr Cian O’Connor is a Fulbright Postdoctoral Scholar working between the laboratories of Prof Fergal O’Brien at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Prof David Mooney at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. His research focuses on developing biomaterials that mimic the biophysical properties of native neural tissue and applying these materials both as therapeutic implants and as tools to investigate mechanobiology in neurodegenerative diseases. His work also explores the use of electroactive biomaterials, gene delivery, transcriptomics and advanced microscopy to develop new therapeutic strategies for spinal cord injury, spinal muscular atrophy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
