    November 17: Freedom, on which current science is built

    Today we commemorate November 17 – the Day of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy and International Students’ Day.

    This day reminds us of the courage of students who stood up against unfreedom in 1939 and 1989. Their voices were often the first to be heard when freedom was threatened. Their courage and civic engagement continue to teach us how important it is to defend an open and educated society. Thanks to them, we can now freely research, teach, and share the results of science.

    At the IEM CAS, we greatly appreciate young scientists who freely continue what generations before them began: asking questions, pushing the boundaries of knowledge, and seeking ways to improve society.
