μLectures is a monthly seminar series designed to enhance researchers’ understanding ofthe fundamental workings and principles of microscopy. Each session, lasting 30 minutes, focuses on a specific concept or topic within microscopy. The practical information presented aims to deepen researchers’ comprehension of their microscopy experiments, giving them a better overview of the options available and enabling them to improve their experimental design and more effectively identify and resolve potential issues.
The topic of the November seminar is sample preparation, with a focus on mounting techniques, mounting media, and immersion. Both the sample and the surrounding medium have a property known as the refractive index. When the refractive indices of different components do not match, it can lead to optical aberrations and degrade image quality. In this session, we will discuss various mounting media and sample preparation strategies, emphasizing their impact on the final image quality.
The seminar will take place on Tuesday 26.11. 2024 from 1 p.m. in the Turquoise Auditorium of the IEM CAS. It will also be possible to join online using this link (open in a new window).
Registration is not required, but we will be happy if you can let us know if you plan to attend (in person or via iva.svecova@iem.cas.cz).
Lecturer: Ivan Novotný, PhD (Service Laboratory of Light Microscopy, Institute of Molecular Genetics)
