Gratulujeme letošním laureátům Nobelovy ceny 🏅 za fyziologii a medicínu.👏

Letošní Nobelovka byla udělena americkým vědcům 👨‍🔬 Victoru Ambrosovi a 👨‍🔬 Garymu Ruvkunovi za jejich objev mikroRNA 🧬, molekul, které hrají klíčovou roli při regulaci genové exprese. Tento průlom výrazně ovlivnil naše chápání genetických sítí a mechanismů, které se podílejí na vývoji buněk a mnoha nemocí, včetně rakoviny. Objev těchto malých RNA molekul, které regulují tvorbu proteinů prostřednictvím messengerové RNA (mRNA), odhalil nové cesty, jakým způsobem jsou geny kontrolovány v různých typech buněk, což má obrovský dopad na biomedicínský výzkum. Tento výzkum začal na jednoduchém organismu, hlístici Caenorhabditis elegans, a později se ukázalo, že podobné mechanismy fungují i u jiných živočichů, včetně lidí.👍

Congratulations to this year's winners of the Nobel Prize 🏅 in Physiology and Medicine.👏

This year's Nobel Prize was awarded to American scientists 👨‍🔬 Victor Ambros and 👨‍🔬 Gary Ruvkun for their discovery of microRNAs 🧬, molecules that play a key role in regulating gene expression. This breakthrough has greatly influenced our understanding of genetic networks and the mechanisms involved in cell development and many diseases, including cancer. The discovery of these small RNA molecules that regulate protein production via messenger RNA (mRNA) has revealed new ways in which genes are controlled in different cell types, with huge implications for biomedical research. This research began with a simple organism, the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, and later showed that similar mechanisms work in other animals, including humans.👍

Popularizaci a komunikaci vědy považujeme za vel

Popularizaci a komunikaci vědy považujeme za velmi důležitou a bohužel i často opomíjenou součást vědy a výzkumu. I proto jsme si do ÚEM AV ČR pozvali oblíbenou a uznávanou vědeckou novinářku a popularizátorku 👩‍🦰 Pavlu Hubálkovou, letošní laureátku Ceny předsedy @veda.vyzkum za popularizaci vědy. Je skvělé mít možnost učit se od těch nejlepších! V rámci dvouhodinových workshopů 👉 Science Communication 🔬 se naši čeští i zahraniční vědci učili, jak jednoduše a srozumitelně komunikovat vědu aneb od storytellingu po efektivní komunikaci složitých vědeckých témat a konceptů.

Děkujeme tímto Pavle Hubálkové za úžasný a velmi inspirativní workshop a těšíme se na jeho pokračování.🥰

We consider the popularisation and communication of science to be a crucial and, unfortunately, still often overlooked part of science and research. That is why we invited the famous and renowned science journalist and populariser 👩‍🦰 Pavla Hubálková to the IEM CAS, this year's winner of the Chair's Award for the Popularisation of Science of the Research, Development, and Innovation Council @veda.vyzkum It is great to have the opportunity to learn from the best! During the two-hour 👉 Science Communication workshops 🔬, our Czech and foreign scientists learned how to communicate science in a simple and understandable way, from storytelling to effective communication of complex scientific topics and concepts.

We want to thank Pavla Hubálková for an amazing and inspiring workshop, and we look forward to the following events.🥰

Přesně před týdnem jsme finišovali s přípravami @nocvedcu a ve večerních hodinách přivítali v areálu biomedicínských ústavů AV ČR 750 návštěvníků. Součástí programu byla kromě exkurzí a přednášek také vědecká talkshow 👉 "Jadrná věda" s novinářem Leošem Kyšou, kterou si pro návštěvníky připravil @nuvr_cz. Mezi hosty nechyběl ani molekulární biolog 👨‍🔬 Pavel Rössner, vedoucí Oddělení toxikologie a molekulární epidemiologie, který hovořil o toxicitě nanočástic.

Exactly one week ago, we were finalising the preparations for the Researchers' Night @nocvedcu and welcomed 750 visitors to the Campus of Biomedical Institutes of the CAS in the evening. In addition to excursions and popularising lectures, the programme also included a scientific talk show, 👉 "Jadrná věda", with journalist Leoš Kyša, prepared by the National Institute for Cancer Research @nuvr_cz. One of the guests was also 👨‍🔬 Pavel Rössner, head of the Department of Toxicology and Molecular Epidemiology, who spoke about the toxicity of nanoparticles.

Minulý týden se naši vědci z Odd. molekulární biologie nádorů a Odd. toxikologie a molekulární epidemiologie vrátili z výroční konference 👉 European Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society Meeting 2024.

Již tradičně byl součástí konference také International Comet Assay Workshop pořádaný mezinárodní skupinou pro kometovou analýzu. Letošní 52. ročník EEMGS konference se konal v malebném přímořském městě Rovinj na chorvatském poloostrově Istrie 🇭🇷 a přinesl mnoho zajímavých přednášek, diskusí a nejnovějších poznatků v oblasti genetiky.🧬

ÚEM AV ČR zde reprezentovali – Natálie Danešová, Soňa Vodenková, Pavel Rössner, Andrea Rössnerová, Antonín Ambrož, Michal Šíma a Zuzana Šímová.

Mimořádný úspěch pak zaznamenala naše Ph.D. studentka 👩‍🎓 Natálie Danešová, které se podařilo v nabité zahraniční konkurenci obdržet 👉 Travel Grant a navíc byla její přednáška oceněna speciální cenou 🏅 Elsevier Talk Award.

Rádi bychom touto cestou Natálii srdečně pogratulovali a poděkovali našim vědcům za jejich skvělou prezentaci ÚEM AV ČR.

Last week, our scientists from the Dept. of Molecular Biology of Cancer and the Dept. of Toxicology and Molecular Epidemiology returned from the 👉 European Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society Meeting 2024.

As always, the conference also included the International Comet Assay Workshop organised by the International Comet Assay Working Group. This year's 52nd EEMGS conference was held in the beautiful seaside town of Rovinj on the Croatian peninsula of Istria 🇭🇷 and provided many interesting lectures, discussions and the latest findings in the field of genetics.🧬

IEM CAS was represented by Natálie Danešová, Soňa Vodenková, Pavel Rössner, Andrea Rössnerová, Antonín Ambrož, Michal Šíma a Zuzana Šímová.

A great success was achieved by our PhD student 👩‍🎓 Natálie Danešová, who succeeded in a busy international competition to receive a 👉 Travel Grant, and moreover, her lecture was awarded with a special 🏅 Elsevier Talk Award.

We would like to congratulate Natália and thank our scientists for their excellent presentation of the IEM CAS.👍
